Is the LG OLED T the future of TV? That’s what visitors to this years CES are asking after LG unveiled the remarkable, transparent, rollable screen.
The model, which uses the same wireless Zero Connect box as the wireless OLED M, is the latest head-turning addition to the brand’s high-end Signature Series line.
The OLED T offers both a transparent and colour screen viewing experience. LG declined to give specific information about the black backing sheet which rolls up and enables the OLED T to deliver true blacks.
Powered by the new Alpha 11 AI processor, the OLED T is practically invisible when turned off, and opens up a host of new interior design options. The Zero Connect Box uses LG wireless transmission technology to send 4k images and sound to the OLED T, so the screen itself can be placed anywhere in a room. Inside CI spent some time with the screen, and can confirm its transparency doesn’t compromise picture performance.
The Alpha 11 AI processor boasts a 70 percent improvement in graphic performance and a 30 percent faster processing speed compared to its predecessor.
When not being used for TV, the OLED T can function as a transparent digital canvas for showcasing artwork, videos, or photos, thanks to an Always-On-Display (AOD). There’s also the option of the T-Bar, an info-ticker that runs along the lower part of the screen.
