Visitors to the Frieze London 2022 art fair will experience a new collaboration between LG Signature OLED and German artist Tobias Rehberger. A labyrinth of geometric patterns, the work is entitled Into the Maze, and represents a merger of sculpture and technology. It’s the latest example of LG’s ongoing support for the creative arts.
Revisiting the pattern behind Into the Maze after its introduction at the 2009 Venice Biennale, Rehberger says he was inspired by dazzle painting, a camouflage technique developed for battleships by British artists during WW1.
The art installation is partly displayed on the unique form factor of the LG Signature OLED TV R rollable screen. The TV screen rolls up to blend into its surroundings. German DJ Sven Väth contributed the musical score, NYX, for the piece.
“I’m fascinated by the LG Signature OLED R,” says Rehberger. “It’s this abstract and minimal piece of furniture that suddenly turns into a hyper functional tool. It’s a hidden beauty that appears and disappears, just like in Into the Maze.”
The latest exhibition follows similar OLED collaborations with artists such as Anish Kapoor and Barry X Ball (Frieze Seoul 2022), Kevin McCoy (Frieze NY 2022) and Damien Hearst (Frieze London 2021).
Tobias Rehberger’s Into the Maze can be seen at Frieze London 2022, which runs from October 12-16 in London's Regent's Park, at the LG OLED Lounge.
