The new SVS 17 Ultra Revolution subwoofer range will arrive in the UK this November, through Karma-AV.

The new subs, available in sealed SB17-Ultra and ported PB17-Ultra variations, feature a 17-inch dual voice-coil SVS driver, dual mono-block Class-D amplification, uprated power supply and advanced DSP and app control. SVS has declared the designs ‘the most powerful, sophisticated, and user-friendly SVS subwoofers ever introduced to the consumer market.’

The 17-inch glass- fibre composite cone employs a 25kg toroidal ferrite magnet motor with SVS’ first dual eight-inch, copper-clad aluminium voice-coil. This combination generates high sound pressure levels even at infrasonic frequencies (15Hz (-3db) for SB17-Ultra and 12Hz (-3db) for PB17-Ultra).

Providing power is new dual mono-block STA-2800D Class-D amplifier with MOSFET output stage. Each amplifier drives one of the dual voice coils to increase the power into the motor while exerting pinpoint control and maximising output potential. Eight 60A/200V MOSFETs deliver the high current necessary for reference-level output with maximum efficiency. To meet the amplifier’s full output potential, SVS has designed a power supply with onboard AC line conditioner and Power Factor Correction, which stabilises the incoming voltage, corrects waveform distortions and eliminates electromagnetic and radio interference.

An advanced, high-resolution 295MHz Analog Devices DSP is used to shape in-room response and stabilise AC voltage delivery, while managing a multi-point thermal and current monitoring system for optimal performance and efficiency. In addition, advanced digital audio processing and DACs with 120 dB S/N provide lower noise with greater headroom and fidelity.

Control comes via a smartphone app which manages calibration and setup. There are controls for volume, low pass filter, phase, polarity, six parametric equalisers, room gain compensation, port tuning (for the PB17-Ultra) and power management settings. There are also three convenient memory presets fo easy system adjustments to match listening preferences.

New to the 17-Ultra Revolution subwoofers is intuitive auto EQ subwoofer room correction, which uses the SVS app and the built-in microphone on a user’s smartphone to apply equalisation filters automatically for optimal room gain and in-room frequency response.

Inputs/outputs include unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR I/O pairs, IR and trigger inputs and USB input for SVS SoundPath wireless operation. There’s also a rear panel OLED display. Finish options include piano gloss black and premium black oak wood veneer finishes.

The SVS will retail for SB17-Ultra sells for £3,250. The PB17-Ultra is priced at £3,750.
