Humax has launched the first hybrid Freeview PVR with IP-based streaming Freely built in. The new Aura EZ 4K TV recorder is positioned as a plug-and-play solution for AV setups that require integrated broadcast and streaming linear TV, with local programme storage.
Connected to an aerial, the recorder supports multi-tuner operation, allowing up to four channels to be recorded simultaneously while a fifth channel is viewed live.
A 2TB hard drive provides storage for up to 1,000 hours of recorded material, which should appeal to multi-user and family environments. Recording management is handled through an on-screen seven-day EPG.
The new unit supports 4K HDR video sources, with Dolby Digital Plus audio. Future functionality will be extended via the Humax Aura EZ app, currently in testing, which will enable remote navigation and recording scheduling.
A central element of the Aura EZ proposition is built-in access to the Freely streaming platform. By connecting to Wi-Fi, users can access more than 60 live channels and over 75,000 hours of on-demand content without the need for an aerial or satellite dish.
This includes services such as BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, 5, U, WATCH FREE UK and PBS America, alongside exclusive Freely channels including 4Homes, 4Life and 4Reality.
It should be noted that recording functionality is not compatible with the Freely platform itself.
Freely functionality includes a Mini-Guide for seamless switching between live and on-demand content, pause and restart of live TV, seven-day forward and backward guide navigation, and personalisation through the ‘My List’ feature. A dedicated Freely button on the remote control provides direct access to the platform, simplifying user interaction.
Integrators should view the device as a consolidated solution: broadcast recording via aerial, IP-based live and on-demand streaming via Wi-Fi, plus UHD HDR output.
The Humax Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder with Freely sells for £249.
