Every home has a room with untapped potential. In this particular case study, it was a generously sized but rarely used space, a blank slate waiting for purpose. What began as an underutilised spare room evolved into a high-end home theater and family entertainment hub, thanks to the expertise of Your Digital Concierge, a San Diego-based integration firm, deploying Snap One solutions.

This project is presented as a textbook example of how custom installers can leverage best-in-class AV, networking, and power management technology to deliver stunning results, even when starting from scratch.

As a specialist in smart living technology, Snap One has long been a go-to resource for AV professionals, offering a comprehensive portfolio of exclusive and third-party brands designed for both residential and commercial projects. Now part of ADI, Snap One’s reach has expanded further, combining the advantages of extensive product selection, intuitive online ordering, and same-day pickup through ADI’s physical branch network.

For this ambitious home theater build, Brian Murray, General Manager of Your Digital Concierge, knew Snap One’s vertically integrated product offering would allow his team to streamline the design process, ensuring compatibility between components, performance, and installation.

The homeowners approached Murray with a clear vision: they wanted to transform their underused room into a theatre and gathering space that would rival (or surpass) a friend’s home cinema that Your Digital Concierge had recently completed.
This wasn’t simply a matter of installing a projector and some speakers. The clients wanted a fully immersive cinematic experience, with best-in-class audio performance, seamless content delivery, and intuitive control.

Adding to the challenge, the family’s preference for streaming content over physical media, coupled with an already bandwidth-heavy smart home, meant the new theatre couldn’t rely on the existing home network.

“The AV processor, streaming media, gaming systems, video projector and control system are all network-dependent,” Murray explained. “Streaming movies, games and music simultaneously and property-wide would overwhelm the family’s current home network, so upgrading these systems was job one.”

To deliver reference-grade Dolby Atmos audio, Murray specified Triad loudspeakers, Snap One’s hand-built, custom-configured speaker line. The final layout featured an 11-speaker surround array paired with four custom-built subwoofers, designed specifically for the room’s dimensions and acoustics.

The front array was placed behind a 125-inch acoustically transparent projection screen.
The goal, according to Murray, was to create a space where “you don’t hear individual speakers, you are fully transported into the world of the film.”

Recognising that high-resolution streaming content would form the backbone of the family’s entertainment experience, Murray upgraded the home’s network infrastructure using Araknis and Access Networks solutions, again from Snap One.

The new system was equipped with high-speed routers capable of prioritising AV traffic, gigabit-capable managed switches to ensure bandwidth is dynamically allocated where it’s needed and enterprise-grade access points delivering Wi-Fi coverage throughout the cinema space and adjoining areas

This high-performance AV-over-IP backbone not only ensures buffer-free streaming, but also provides future-ready scalability.

Long-term reliability was further enhanced with the inclusion of WattBox power management. This system automatically reboots devices after power disruptions or software updates - an important feature in fire-prone Southern California, where power interruptions are common.
For additional peace of mind, Your Digital Concierge deployed Snap One’s OvrC remote management platform, enabling the integrator to monitor system health and address issues remotely, often before the family even notices a problem.

All equipment was housed in Strong AV racks, Snap One’s professional-grade rack solution. While the racks remain hidden in a nearby storage space, their structural integrity, easy cable management, and service-friendly design ensure the theater’s heart remains accessible and organized, simplifying future upgrades and maintenance.

What started as a neglected room was duly transformed into a fully immersive home theatre delivering stunning audio-visual performance, rock-solid content delivery, and intuitive control.

Importantly, this future-proof foundation ensures that the system can grow alongside the family’s evolving needs, whether that means adding new sources, expanding smart home integration, or incorporating new audio zones.
