High-end Sourcepoint 888 loudspeaker will have Hi-Fi speaker geeks salivating

MoFi Electronics SourcePoint 888 loudspeaker, designed by famed speaker designer Andrew Jones, is now available in the UK, via distributor Karma-AV.

The new floorstander is built around the unique concentric driver from the award-winning SourcePoint 8 design. The driver, which integrates a twin drive magnet structure, paper pulp cone, and concentrically mounted soft dome tweeter, is joined by two newly developed dedicated 8-inch woofers to create a 3-way, floor-standing speaker said to deliver exceptional bass extension and dynamics.

Positioned beneath the concentric driver, the additional woofers operate below 130Hz, relieving the concentric driver from the task of producing deep bass and allowing it to be fully optimised for midrange and treble performance.

A three-way crossover blends the drivers using carefully chosen crossover frequencies and slopes to minimise the audibility of out-of-band anomalies and to produce smooth on-axis and off-axis responses.

The new woofers employ dual opposing neodymium magnets in a configuration that uses a short coil in a long magnetic gap. The magnetic field is entirely uniform throughout the gap, resulting in very linear and precisely controlled cone movement.

In addition, each driver in the SourcePoint 888 operates within individual isolated chambers, the construction of which adds considerable stiffness to the cabinet to further reduce cabinet resonances. Two sets of high-quality binding posts provide for bi-wire and bi-amp connectivity.

According to Jones, the design objective for the SourcePoint 888 “is to enhance the technology and sound quality of the original SourcePoint 8 and elevate it to an even higher performance level.”

The SourcePoint 888 from MoFi Electronics is available now, and retails for £5,599 (a pair).
