Mobile Fidelity’s high-end UltraGold Moving Coil phono cartridge is now available in the UK, via distributor Karma-AV. Precision crafted in Japan and voiced by Spiral Groove founder Allen Perkins, the UltraGold MC boasts ‘an exceptionally wide frequency response, tonal richness, lifelike separation, and true-to-the-source faithfulness of a class-leading audiophile MC design.’
Making use of proprietary inputs from Allen Perkins, superlative manufacturing unites UltraGold MC’s nude Shibata diamond profile stylus and boron cantilever with a neodymium magnet and Permendur yoke, all housed within an ultra-low resonance aluminium/brass extrusion to deliver tangible low-end energy, high transient responsiveness, and noteworthy openness and transparency from vinyl discs.
Even so, the UltraGold MC is said to be easy to set up in virtually any system: the threaded cartridge body permits mounting to a head shell or integral tonearm with just two screws, no bolts or nuts are required.
The UltraGold MC cartridge weighs 7.3g and will sell for £1,499. It begins shipping in November.
