Epson has announced a flagship ultra-short-throw projector for the premium home cinema and lifestyle market. The Lifestudio Grand EH-LS970 combines 4K resolution, high light output and integrated Google smart TV functionality in a tidy UST design intended to sit close to a wall.
The newcomer replaces the EH-LS800 as Epson’s top-tier lifestyle UST projector. It’s built around Epson’s latest 4K imaging system, delivering 8.3 million pixels at a resolution of 3840 x 2160, with a 3LCD laser light engine. The light source has a quoted life of 20,000 hours.
With an ultra-short-throw ratio of 0.16–0.4:1, the model can project images up to 150 inches, from just centimetres. Brightness is rated at 4,000 lumens, so should be able to operate in rooms with some ambient light, as well as fully dark environments.
This time out, Epson’s laser-based 3LCD optical engine has been paired with an AI-powered image optimisation system designed to analyse content in real time and adjust picture parameters accordingly. The brand quotes a dynamic contrast ratio of up to 5,000,000:1. The audio system has been designed by Bose, making this a potent all in-one media room solution.
Built-in Google TV ensures a wide selection of popular streaming apps are on tap, although Freely is notable by its absence.
Gamers benefit from an ALLM gaming mode with input lag quoted at under 20ms. Operational noise is kept low, with Epson rating the projector at 29dB in normal operation and as little as 18dB in quiet mode.
Installers should note that setup is supported by the Epson Setting Assistant app, which uses a smartphone camera to guide users through alignment and image adjustment.
The Epson Lifestudio Grand EH-LS970 is available from April 2026. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.
