AV specialist Emotiva has launched a Dolby Atmos AV receiver, the BasX MR1, and sibling processor, the MC1. Distribution is via Karma-AV.
The BasX MR1 is a 13.2 channel model able to deliver 100W per channel into 8 ohms, or 130W into 4 ohms, all channels driven. The MR1’s linear Class H power supply, with 1,000 VA toroidal transformer, promises prodigious dynamic power. The AVR covers Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and there are line level audio outputs for all thirteen sound channels, plus subwoofers.
The BasX MR1 is clearly a home theatre product, designed for home theatre installs, rather than gaming. The receiver has six HDMI inputs, certified HDMI 2.0b, with two HDMI outputs for screen and projector user. HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are all supported, alongside eARC.
Audio connectivity includes four unbalanced analogue stereo inputs, four digital audio connections (two coaxial, two optical digital), plus USB audio. Wireless connectivity comprises Bluetooth with aptX.
The MR1 ships with a measurement microphone and the latest version of EmoQ, Emotiva’s own automatic room correction system. Doing the heavy lifting beneath the lid is an Analog Devices SHARC DSP.
The stablemate Emotiva BasX MC1 is aimed at system builders looking to add a new processor to an existing power amp. The processor boasts a slim 79mm profile, with 13.2 channel AV processing and identical input/output design. It also employs EmoQ automatic room correction.
The Emotiva MR1 retails for £2,300, the Emotiva MC1 £1,299.
