Audio specialist ELAC has launched the Miracord 80, a high-end vinyl turntable. The deck features a 10-inch carbon fibre tonearm, solid wood plinth and optional dedicated MM (Moving Magnet) cartridge, manufactured for Elac by Clearaudio.
The Miracord 80 is available in gloss black or walnut veneer, and retailing for £2,199.00 with cartridge or £1,999.00 without. The lid is a £199 optional extra.
The player is the latest in a long line of Hi-Fi to bear the marque. The first turntables with the Miracord range name appeared in the 1950s. The Miracord 80,was first previewed at The High End Munich show earlier this year.
As befits its range-topping position, build quality is suitably high. The plinth is milled from solid wood, then finished in high gloss white or black or walnut veneer and anodised aluminium panels that add stability and mass.
The steel platter weighs 5.6 Kg and is belt-driven by a PID servo-controlled DC motor, said to perfect speed stability. The newly developed tonearm is made from carbon fibre, offering strength and relative light weight for the D96 moving magnet cartridge and stylus.
