Denon brings Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support to its soundbar lineup with the Home Sound Bar 550. The new speaker is also the first Denon sound bar to include onboard software drivers for Control4, Crestron, URC and Elan home automation systems.

The feature list also offers Amazon Alexa compatibility and boasts Heos built-in. Users with an existing Heos ecosystem, including other Denon Home products, can add the Sound Bar 550 as a separate wireless zone. Listeners can play different music in each room or group all HEOS Built-in and Denon Home devices together to stream the same music in Party Mode throughout the home or office.

It will stream from Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music HD and TIDAL and play high-resolution files stored on phones or network via Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, or Bluetooth.

The 550 offers a single, 4k enabled eARC HDMI. The bar itself features a six-driver array, but can be expanded into a fully immersive Dolby Atmos sound system with other wireless Denon Home speakers, including the Denon Home 150, 250 and 350, which will function as rear-channel surrounds. It will also work with the DSW-1H wireless subwoofer, available separately.

The sound bar’s control panel lights up automatically when an outstretched hand is detected, on-body controls include volume adjustment, play/pause and the ability to skip or restart songs. Alternatively, users can resort to the remote controller or HEOS app. A Quick Select option allows listeners to store their preferred source with listening modes with a single button press.

The Sound Bar 550’s built-in microphones will be enabled via a firmware update in Spring 2021. This will activate Alexa smart assistant functionality. If a user chooses to enable Alexa, the Denon Home Sound Bar 550 will function as an Alexa controller.

The Denon Home Sound Bar 550 will sell for £599 when it launches February 2021.
