DALI has unveiled its most powerful subwoofer to date at High End Munich audio show, telling Inside CI that it’s part of a strategic move deeper into home cinema and Custom Install.
The V-16 F features a 16-inch driver incorporating the largest ever Constant Surface Surround (CSS rubber surround), featuring technology licensed from sister brand Purifi. It boasts ±16 mm linear diaphragm travel with 70 mm peak-to-peak excursion. It’s powered by a 1500 W Class-D power amplifier, able to peak at 2500 W. Applications include both movies and music.
A key feature of the subwoofer’s design is extremely low harmonic and non-harmonic distortion. The subwoofer features performance optimising DSP, with an onboard control able to quickly identify and attenuate room nodes. In-room bandwidth is specified at -3 dB @ 19 Hz.
Connectivity includes phono LFE and XLR. Interconnects are housed within a cavity in the cabinet, to simplify installations. The sub has been designed with four continuous flare reflex ports, tuned to 18 Hz. With a 90 Litre cabinet volume, the sub tips the scales at 65kg.
"The continued success of our home cinema range has driven demand for a flagship subwoofer to meet the needs of movie and music fans that demand the very best in low-end frequency response. We see an increase in adoption of home cinema set-ups across Europe and we're pleased to be raising the bar in the high-end home cinema sound sector" says Michael Munch, CI Business Development Manager, DALI.
The DALI V-16 F will retail for £5,000. The company hinted to Inside CI at the Munich Hi-Fi show that additional subwoofers would join the V-16 F in due course, utilising small drivers at lower price points.
