Magnetar has announced two new universal media players, the UDP900MKII and UDP800MKII, at CEDIA Expo 2025 in Denver. The models represent a precision-tuned upgrade to its award-winning player range, developed with direct input from installers and end users.
Building on the existing UDP900 and UDP800 platforms, the new MKII Series introduces refinements in audio performance, video processing, and system integration. Intended for premium home cinema installations, there’s support for a wide array of physical and digital media formats, including 4K UHD Blu-ray, SACD, and networked content.
The UDP900MKII flagship employs dual ESS 9038 PRO DACs, plus TMDS retiming on its dedicated HDMI audio port to reduce jitter and preserve fine sonic detail. It also supports XMOS USB audio playback up to 768 PCM / 512 DSD, making it suitable for high-resolution music.
Networking refinements and Roon Ready certification.
The UDP800MKII, meanwhile, refines Magnetar’s more accessible platform with a newly designed 2.0 audio stage, incorporating seven OPA1602 op-amps for low-noise operation. Enhanced EMI shielding, precision HDMI jitter correction, and a revised sound-dampened chassis contribute to stability and durability.
Like its flagship counterpart, the UDP800MKII also supports Roon Ready certification.
Series-wide improvements across both players include a refreshed video processing engine for optimised colour reproduction, brightness and contrast, alongside improved upscaling.
Integration has been addressed with redesigned USB 3.0 ports featuring isolated power supplies and dedicated hub chips, while structural changes include a sound-dampened optical drive and dual-layer aluminium chassis for reduced vibration and interference. Upgraded interior wiring with copper-core conductors and premium PCB connectors further improve reliability.
The Magnetar UDP900MKII carries a suggested retail price of $3,299.99, while the UDP800MKII is priced at $1,799.99. UK prices are TBC. Both models are expected to ship in Q4 2025 through Magnetar’s dealer and distributor network.
