CEDIA is taking its Cabling & Infrastructure Technician certification exam on the road, with five UK sessions planned between October and December.
Designed to make the CIT certification more accessible, the initiative aims to increase the number of certified professionals in the field, and boost the credibility and professionalism across the custom installation sector.
The CIT certification is aimed at technicians in the first few years of their careers. It provides a way to verify foundational knowledge, build confidence and demonstrate a commitment to professional development.
The first exam session takes place on October 1 at Alltrade in Manchester. This is followed by sessions at CEDIA HQ in St Neots on November 3 and Habitech in Basingstoke on November 4. Alltrade in Glasgow will host the fourth session on November 18, with the final exam taking place at AWE in Epsom on December 9.
For integrators, the certification provides a recognised, brand-neutral industry credential covering technical knowledge and professional development. CEDIA says CIT Certification can also support members working towards CEDIA Member of Excellence status and increase visibility through its Find a Smart Home Professional directory.
Certified integrators can become eligible to act as Smart Home Assessors under the CEDIA Smart Home Assurance programme. The qualification can also support eligibility for the CEDIA Home Technology Integrator ECS Card, which provides site access for qualifying professionals.
“Certification is an important way for professionals to demonstrate their expertise and commitment to best practice, but we understand that accessibility can often be a barrier,” says Matt Nimmons, Managing Director of CEDIA EMEA. “By taking the CIT exam on the road, we are making it easier for more technicians across the UK to gain a globally recognised industry credential and support the continued growth and professionalism of the sector.”
CEDIA is also providing practical support for candidates preparing for the examination. Everyone who registers for a session will receive a free copy of the CEDIA CIT textbook, normally worth £65.
Places on each session are limited, and CEDIA is recommending early booking. Registration is available through CEDIA’s online calendar of events.
