Ascendo has launched a new high-power DSP amplifier aimed at residential cinema projects that demand the kind of low-frequency control more commonly associated with professional live sound environments.
The new DSP4-6602 joins the company’s Creator Series and has been engineered specifically for installations where large-format subwoofer systems require substantial sustained power, but where the operational compromises of traditional professional amplification don’t quite fit the brief.
Ascendo says the amp was developed to address a familiar challenge for cinema designers and custom installers: achieving extreme low-frequency performance in residential spaces without introducing excessive cooling noise, limited automation options or awkward system integration.
While many domestic amplifiers struggle with the continuous demands of large infrasonic subwoofers, pro-audio alternatives can often prove unsuitable for high-end private cinema rooms.
Housed within a compact 1RU chassis, the amplifier delivers up to 6,600W RMS and is capable of sustained low-frequency performance down to 5Hz. It’s stable at 2 Ohms and can also be bridged into 4-Ohm loads, enabling it to drive Ascendo’s larger infrasonic and high-output subwoofer systems.
The company has also focused on the practical requirements of resi integration. The DSP4-6602 incorporates a low-noise cooling system, making it suitable for equipment racks located within the cinema space itself.
Control and automation features include selectable 12V trigger input logic, trigger output and configurable auto-standby functionality, alongside Ethernet-based multi-amplifier management options.
According to Geoffrey Heinzel, co-managing partner of Ascendo, the amplifier has been developed to combine high-output low-frequency performance with the operational refinement expected in premium residential cinema projects. “The DSP4-6602 has both the brute-force low-frequency performance and residential refinement that today’s high-end cinemas require,” he says.
The DSP4-6602 can be deployed either as a standalone flagship amplifier or as part of a larger multi-channel rack system. The manufactuer says its combination of power density, compact form factor and network control capability is intended to support increasingly ambitious immersive audio installations.
The DSP4-6602 is available now through Ascendo Immersive Audio partners and distributors.
