Together For Cinema has unveiled a new industry initiative aimed at reducing AV waste while supporting charities and community organisations across the UK.
The new online platform, GivingBack.tech, aims to repurpose second-hand, discontinued and B-Stock AV equipment by connecting donors with Community Interest Companies (CICs) and registered charities.
The initiative seeks to address a long-standing issue within the industry, namely the large volume of functional AV equipment that is often discarded or sent to landfill.
The platform plans to give these products a valuable second life.
Ian Morrish, founder of Together For Cinema, is encouraging manufacturers, distributors, integrators and industry professionals to get involved ahead of the official charity launch at the end of May.
“To make this initiative a success, we need the industry’s support,” said Morrish. “Many companies have unused AV equipment sitting in warehouses or storerooms that could transform the day-to-day operations of a hard-working charity.”
We encourage businesses to register as donors and upload five to ten items they are willing to donate. The goal is to secure between 200 and 300 donated items ahead of the charity launch, ensuring organisations accessing the platform immediately benefit from a strong range of available equipment.
Beyond reducing waste, GivingBack.tech aims to strengthen the AV industry’s social impact by creating a practical, sustainable way for unused technology to continue delivering value to local communities. Companies are also encouraged to share details of the initiative with customers, partners and colleagues to help build awareness and momentum across the sector.
Ian Morrish is set to host a webinar examining how surplus audiovisual equipment can be redirected to support charities and community organisations, while addressing sustainability and social value priorities within the AV sector.
Titled “An AV Industry Conduit To Good Causes”, (Suggested alternative title: “Repurposing AV: Connecting Surplus Equipment with Social Impact”), the session will explain the ethos behind GivingBack.tech, a recently launched platform designed to facilitate the redistribution of second-hand, discontinued and B-stock AV equipment to not-for-profit organisations and how companies can become part of the initiative.
Taking place on Friday 22 May at 10:00 am, the 30-minute session will provide insight into how the platform works for both equipment donors and recipient organisations. It will also explore the impact of extending the lifecycle of AV products through structured reuse, particularly in supporting UK charities and Community Interest Companies.
Content will focus on the practicalities of listing and sourcing equipment via the platform, alongside considerations for organisations looking to incorporate reuse into wider sustainability and social value strategies.
The session is open to stakeholders across the AV supply chain, including manufacturers, distributors, integrators, consultants, and end-user organisations, as well as those responsible for sustainability and corporate social value initiatives.
