LED and Pro AV display specialist Absen has appointed Jonathan Dyson as its first Industry Development Director for Virtual Production in Europe.

The position will build on the momentum the company has generated in the VP sector in the last six months, through new product development and collaborative solutions.

Virtual production is gaining traction across filmmaking, broadcast, video production and gaming. ISE 2023 saw the European trade show debut of the PR 2.5, Absen’s new flagship virtual production (VP) LED solution.

The PR Series is designed as an all-in-one platform for both a VP backdrop and ceiling. Offering a high contrast ratio, the product offers a wide colour gamut, fast heat dissipation and provides a 16 per cent reduction in power consumption compared with comparative solutions. With the customised lock system, users can quickly complete installations including hanging, stacking and other layouts.

“I’m delighted to be joining Absen as virtual production emerges as a significant new sector for LED displays,” said Dyson. “I’ve been impressed with how Absen has approached the sector, organising the recent London VP Forum for example, as well their solid product engineering, manufacturer partnerships and eagerness to take a leadership position in VP wider market development. I’m looking forward to drawing on my wide and varied experience to continue this commitment and business growth in this exciting new sector for LED displays.”

In related news, Absen and global creative studio Final Pixel have partnered to provide an exclusive end-to-end virtual production training academy, for students studying Visual Effects and Games Art courses. Absen became involved with the Final Pixel on the project to assist in providing a better understanding of VP and ICVFX on LED walls and for those wanting to develop a career within the industry and helping them get ahead of the game. “It gave us the opportunity to demonstrate this fairly new technology, highlighting the flexibility, ease of installation and cost effectiveness of the Absen PL Series.

Absen virtual production LED screens have the range to create a large 25 – 30-meter curved volume, as well as a much smaller, twenty panel screen to film more basic shots, still with exceptional quality and performance, which the students observed throughout the training,” said Dyson.
