Meridian Systems has upped its involvement in custom install, introducing a new, compact DSP architectural hifi loudspeaker. Designed for in-ceiling use, but slim enough for in-wall duties, the new DSP320 is said to deliver similar tonal qualities and a compatible performance with Meridian’s oft-lauded free-standing DSP loudspeakers.
Much like its stablemate DSP520, the DSP320 has been engineered for wide dispersion over a maximum listening area; its baffle and grille design reducing unwanted diffraction. The on-board DSP provides thermal and dynamic bass protection, allowing the loudspeaker to be played at high levels for prolonged periods of time. As with all Meridian Loudspeakers, the DSP320 features the brand’s proprietary EBA (Enhanced Bass Alignment) technology.

The speaker has a compact 300mm square design and is 100mm deep. It features an oval bass driver, and uses the same 85mm wide-range driver as the DSP520, and a damped, high-rigidity aluminium acoustic enclosure. Onboard there’s a 2-channel amplifier with linear power supply, DSP crossover, setup controls and IR sensor. Meridian suggests that this DSP design an equivalent performance to an enclosure of eight times the physical volume.
The DSP320 comes in standard white, but the plated steel grille is paintable to match decor. The grille itself attachs using magnetic clamps. A back-box and frame system is available to aid installation. The Meridian DSP320 retails for £1500 each. The back-box and frame system sells for £150.
