Meridian Audio has launched the Meridian 258, a rack-mounted eight-channel power amplifier for multiroom audio systems. Designed specifically for the custom installation market, the 258 is just 1U high, and employs cool-running Class D amplifiers. It doesn’t need, or use, an internal fan or any external cooling. Meridian says this can “significantly reduce the installation time and cost of running a multiroom system – it’s a genuinely fit and forget solution.”

The amplifier is rated at 100W per channel into 4 Ohms and 70W into 8 Ohms. The company says it’s tuned for performance and employs a proprietary output filter design designed for optimum performance with High-Res Audio sources. Other features include a linear power supply, and a short signal path for complete signal purity and isolation between channels. Multi-layer circuit boards have been used to improve electromagnetic performance.

“We are really excited to introduce the Meridian 258,” says Barry Sheldrick, Meridian Audio Director of Sales. “As a brand that has always focused on providing the best possible audio experience we can help audio systems, which may not be using our loudspeakers, to achieve that trademark Meridian sound. The Meridian 258 is perfect for the custom installation market as it integrates seamlessly with existing audio systems and offers a fantastically powerful and efficient way to drive passive loudspeakers, at a profitable price for dealers.”

The Meridian 258 is priced at £1250 (excluding VAT). For more news stories about Meridian Audio products and services, visit our partner page here.
