Leading CI distributor AWE has added LG's curved OLED 55EA980V to its UK screen portfolio. In addition to a distinctive concave screen, the 55-inch Full HD display and fast refresh rate make it a firm choice for sports fans. Thanks to self illuminating technology, the panel is just 5mm thin. Connectivity includes four HDMIs and three USB ports. Wi-Fi with Miracast, used for mirroring a mobile device screen, are built in. Passive 3D is supported.
"With its extremely high contrast ratio, the colour range on the 980V really has to be seen to be believed," says Paul Mott, sales director at AWE. "The huge advantage of OLED compared to traditional LED televisions, is that individual pixels can be dimmed or turned off independently. This means that when a very dark scene appears on the screen, individual pixels turn off so that there is no visible backlight, creating a depth of field never before seen with traditional televisions."
While rival brands have struggled to commercialise OLED technology, LG says it has dramatically improved yields thanks to its proprietary WRGB panel production technique. An extra white pixel in each RGB cluster improves overall brightness and clarity. Integrators should note though that this particular screen is not designed for wall mounting.
