The eagerly anticipated new SVS Ultra line of loudspeakers is now shipping in the UK. Designed by Mark Mason, the range comprises floor and stand speakers, dedicated centre channel and surrounds. All embrace high-end cabinet construction and feature custom-designed drive units and crossovers. Distribution is via Karma-AV.

The most eye-catching of the offerings is the Ultra Tower, a 114cm tall floorstander with 1-inch aluminium dome tweeter, dual 6.5-inch glass-fibre midrange drivers, 3.5-inch flared rear-firing port and dual horizontally-opposed 8-inch woofers. With it's unique upswept trapezoidal shape and piano gloss black or real black oak veneer finish, the enclosure is quite a statement. It retails at £2,200 per pair.

If the Tower is too imposing, then there's always the Ultra Bookshelf, retailing at £1,099 per pair. Developed in tandem with the Tower, this is a two-way reference monitor shares the cosmetics of its bigger brother and features the same 1-inch Ultra tweeter, plus 6.5inch woofer and 1.7-inch flared reflex port. Just the ticket for smaller home cinemas.

Rounding out the brand's multi-channel proposition is the Ultra Center and Surrounds. The former features the Ultra 1-inch dome tweeter, with a 4-inch vertically-aligned glass-fibre midrange driver and dual 6.5-inch woofers. The wedge-shaped surrounds feature the same tweeter and an angled 5.5-inch woofer. Three surround modes are available: classic dipole (when both sets of drivers out of phase), bipole (both sets of drivers in phase) and duet (both drivers receive a discrete signal). They are priced at £749 and £1299 respectively.
