Picture processing specialist DVDO has released a pint-sized 4K upscaler, called the iScan Mini.  It’s designed to improve the consistency of video content displayed on 4K screens by upscaling standard and high-def sources to UHD resolution, using proprietary VRS video processing.

The iScan Mini also offers a selection of setup and adjustment tools, olus EDID editing, which could allow installers to fix certain incompatibility isues, and an optical digital audio output. There are three audio stripping modes: auto, stereo PCM and multichannel. There are test patterns (75 per cent colours, PLUGE, sharpness, focus, colour bars) to adjust brightness, contrast, colour/saturation levels, overscan and resolution verification. The unit is small enough, at 80 x 63 x 20 mm, to sit at the back of an equipment rack.

VRS ClearView combines 4K scaling developed to remove jaggies and mosquito noise from poor quality sources, with clean up of IP sources and detail enhancement. It also incorporates picture enhancement presets with custom settings. Recognising that SD and HD content requires different processing, the unit automatically switches between enhancements designed for each input video type.

VRS ClearView features three modes. Auto upscales any source to 4K, with DVDO mode scales compatible frame rates to match a custom resolution. Off disables the iScan Mini’s scaler (setting it to 1:1 mode) while keeping other processing active. The iScan Mini can also be used in a 1080p display environment.

The iScan Mini 4K scaler retails for £275. Distribution is via Karma-AV. For more news on Karma-AV’s product portfolio, visit our partner page here.
