The world's largest 4K Ultra High Definition TV, the Samsung UE85S9ST, is now available from AWE Europe. The 85-inch mega-screen, which retails for £35,000, offers unparalleled home viewing with four times the resolution of a Full HD TV. As no pixel structure is evident, even on a panel of this size, integrators can position the display for relatively close viewing.
The groundbreaking UHD TV, which stands 1624mm tall and weighs 58kg, is supported within an easel-like Timeless Gallery frame, which allows the panel to be easily orientated vertically. The set's 120W sound system is partially built into this stand. The TV features both Freeview HD and Freesat tuners, along with Samsung's Smart content portal, home to a comprehensive selection of catch-up and video on demand services. Although there is currently no native 4K video content available, 1080p sources can be upscaled to 3840 x 2160 resolution by Samsung's Quad Detail Enhancement picture processor. Inside CI has spent some time with the screen, and can confirm its performance is quite extraordinary. The television also offers voice and gesture control functionality.
AWE sales director Paul Mott told Inside CI: "Big screen 4K is big news for CI. The quality is easily seen. Currently our best selling TV is 55-inches, but we are limited by the number of models and manufacturers," he says. "An 85-inch 4K screen is relatively easily accommodated in someone's home, and it'll be like a cinema without the complexity of putting in a full projection system. While it would be nice to have a roadmap for native 4K content, UHD actually does a really good job upscaling what we've got now. It makes something more of HD TV and Blu-ray."
Mott adds that AWE Technical Services can offer help to dealers and installers daunted by the handling complexity of such a large product. "We take the headache out of moving something this large. We have a big support mechanism."
