AWE has begun shipping the new KEF E305 surround sound speaker system. The latest evolution of KEF's famous 'egg' sub/sat design, the E305 sports the latest iteration of the brand's Uni-Q driver array, which features a 19mm vented tweeter in the centre of an 11.5cm aluminium mid/bass drive unit. The tweeter uses a variation of KEF's 'tangerine' wave guide first developed for the brand's high-end Blade speakers, while the iconic egg enclosure itself calls upon construction technology lifted from KEF's lauded LS-50 studio monitors.
The E305's E-2 active subwoofer features a long throw 20cm bass driver, driven by a 250W Class-D amplifier. It's rated down to 33Hz. While the E305 package is available in 5.1 configuration, it can be expanded with additional E301 speakers.
Stuart Tickle, managing director of AWE Europe and wannabe
member of Spinal Tap, says: "KEF has really turned it up to eleven
with the new E305 system. Bringing technology derived from the KEF
Blade and KEF LS-50 to a home cinema system at this price point was
no doubt a huge undertaking, however the results speak for
themselves!"
