Interest in 3D-ready displays is growing within the CI trade and according to AWE Europe's product manager James Drummie, the brand leading the way is Panasonic. So AWE has partnered with the Japanese major to bring two install specific 3D products to market: the PT-AT5000E projector and 65inch Custom Home Theatre (CHT) TH-65VX300 plasma display, described by Drummie as "the reference standard in flat screens."
He adds "If first impressions are anything to go by, we expect to see these products flying out of our warehouse."
The TH-65VX300 joins Panasonic's existing range of 3D CHT plasma displays, which includes 85-, 103- and 152-inch screen sizes. Not only is its Active Shutter 3D presentation virtually crosstalk- free, its Full HD 2D image quality is astonishingly sharp and vibrant. The TH-65VX300 features a best-in-class colour gamut and deep, contrasty blacks. CI embellishments include two programmable 12-volt triggers, RS-232, LAN control and web browser access.
The PT-AT5000E projector is the first 3D model from the brand. With an stereoscopic viewing monitor to adjust parallax and 3D picture balance features, 300,000:1 contrast ratio and 2,000 lumens of brightness, it's a versatile proposition. Tuning and development has been done in conjunction with the engineers at the Panasonic PHL Hollywood Labs Blu-ray authoring and research centre, in LA.
Crosstalk artefacts have been largely abolished through the use of 480Hz ultra-fast refresh LCD panels. The projector can also convert all 2D sources into fake 3D.
