Samsung Electronics, working with AV Solution Partner Bild+Ton, recently completed the installation of an upgraded display solution in the Swiss Life Arena, including the largest indoor LED cube in Europe, making it the most modern ice hockey arena in Switzerland.
The arena upgrade has brought the venue up to National Hockey League (NHL) standards. Samsung installed 669 square metres of LED signage inside the arena, totalling over 18 million LEDs.
The central LED Cube display, which measures 12x12x8m (w/d/h), is central to the fan experience. Regardless of where visitors sit in the 12,000 seat arena, the cube is clearly visible.
During the process of constructing the massive Cube, the biggest challenge was to keep the total weight as low as possible, and the scale of the installation project.
“You need a reason for fans to come back to the stadium, and we can do so many things now to communicate during the game with the fans. It’s not only the Cube, it’s the screens; it’s the signage,” said Bruno Vollmer, Chief Operating Officer of the ZSC Lions.
These Samsung displays include numerous ribbon boards, long and thin LED screens mounted on the face of balconies, and copious pro-audio equipment. The banners balance the need for optimal visibility with low reflection, to cope with constantly changing lighting conditions.
In total, Samsung installed 240 strategically located displays across the stadium, including models from its 4k resolution QMR-series signage, which have been deployed in the sports bar and around the concourse.
In the auditorium, guests are greeted by The Wall (IWA), while Samsung B2B monitors were selected for the ZSC Lions’ offices, chosen for their high-resolution picture quality and productivity features.
Other display upgrades were made to the Players Club , the concourse to the Business Club, the Sports Club and Press Room.
The content management across all signage displays is supported by MagicINFO 9, a cloud-based solution which offers 24/7 remote technical support. On-screen content is managed by Samsung’s MagicINFO 9 solution, which supports content, device, and data management across all the displays throughout the entire arena.
Samsung is the official display technology partner of Swiss Life Arena, Switzerland-based ice hockey arena and home to the ZSC Lions.
