IFA 2012 will go down in history as the year that 4K ultra high
definition TV displays finally broke cover. Sony took a lead, with
its remarkable 84-inch KD-84X9005 debutant, but others were not too
far behind. Toshiba had an 84-inch prototype seemingly ready to
join its existing ZL2 display, although the brand no longer seems
to be pursuing glasses-free 3D, while LG and Samsung exhibited 70-
and 84-inch proto-sets respectively.
The show was also notable for the rise of smart appliances.
Net-connected Smart kitchen kit, controllable by apps, promise
superior economy and functionality - and appearing at IFA for the
first was Smart building technology, from plug-in RF control
modules to complete home energy management systems.
Inside CI caught up with Paul Mott, AWE's Sales Director, in Samsung's sprawling appliance hall. Mott said he was extremely impressed by what he had seen, singling out Sony's 4K display and incoming high-end Reference screens from Loewe for particular praise. "In terms of technology it's all looking very interesting," he said. It seems the times they really are a changing. For a closer look at the show, fire up our photo gallery below...
