CEDIA EXPO 2012: What you need to know

CEDIA EXPO is the biggest, most glamorous dedicated custom install show in the world. Covering every aspect of CI, from Smart home technology, IP integration and networking to home theatre, it's the place to see how technology is shaping the market. It also provides an unrivalled opportunity to network with the industry's movers and shakers, and have a little fun in the process. CEDIA Expo runs from September 5-8, at the Indianapolis convention centre, located in downtown Indiana. The tradeshow floor opens on September 6.

CEDIA EXPO 21012 Media Preview
New this year for analysts and media is a CEDIA EXPO Media Preview. A lunchtime event, it takes place in the Sagamore Ballroom at the convention centre, between 12:30 - 2:00pm, on September 5. This preview offers an opportunity to meet manufacturers and see new products before the show floor opens. Immediately afterward, tours of the Future Technology Pavilion will be taking place.

CEDIA EXPO 21012 Keynote Address
On the evening of the 5th there's the opening keynote address, and it looks to be a must-see event. Called The Intuitive Home of 2016, it will be given by technologist and visionary Dr. Michio Kaku. The hour long address starts at 5.30pm. You'll probably not find a more insight view of tomorrow's smart home technologies; Dr Kaku, a regular on TV science programmes on both sides of the Atlantic, will paint a picture of  what life will be like after the smart home transforms into the fully intuitive home.

Immediately after his keynote there will be a panel discussion in room 140. Moderated by Michael Heiss, it will discuss topics raised by the Intuitive Home presentation. Dr Kaku will be on hand, along with representatives from CEDIA, Crestron and Clare Controls. It's bound to be both fascinating and inspirational.

CEDIA EXPO 21012 Welcome Reception
Simultaneously on the 5th there's the Welcome Reception, hosted by CEDIA Chairman Federico Bausone and sponsored  by Crestron. It runs between 6.30 - 9:00pm, at the 500 Ballroom in the convention center. It's certain to provide a good opportunity to find out what topics are hot with US integrators.

CEDIA EXPO 21012 After Hours Party
The first day at the show is bound to be exhausting, but make a space in your diary on September 6 for the EXPO After Hours party. Starting at 6:30pm in Georgia Street, just outside the conventional centre, it promises to be a fun night of networking, music and complimentary beverages - all you need to get in is your EXPO pass and some ID. The party wraps at 9.30pm.

CEDIA EXPO 21012 Electronic Lifestyles Awards
Finally, on the evening of Saturday 8th, the CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles Awards Celebration takes place. The reception starts at 6.30pm, with the awards themselves kicking off at 8pm. It all happens at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. The after party follows at 9pm and is sponsored by the good folks at Custom Retailer magazine. It's certain to be a great way to wrap up the EXPO.
