Trinnov Audio has marked its official UK bow with the launch of the new Altitude 32 home cinema processor and room optimizer, setting its sights clearly on rivals at the high end of the home theatre market. Trinnov Audio has already become a major force on the commercial side of the theatrical and post production since the company’s launch in 2001.

The new 32-channel unit natively decodes standard lossless surround codecs such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS HS MA, but can be specified with Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D sound format support. According to CEO Arnaud Laborie, the processor will be upgradeable to additional new formats because the processor is based on an Intel platform rather than dedicated DSP chippery. “We can simply flash the unit when required,” he told Inside CI. HDMI connectivity can similarly be upgraded to 2.0 in due course, says the brand. The unit currently ships with eight v.1.4b inputs. Other connections include a 16 channel DB25, eight digital audio inputs (four coaxial, four optical) and a multi-channel 7.1 analogue. Outputs include two HDMIs, 16 balanced XLRs and 32 balanced via four DB25s.

While Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D require somewhat different speaker deployments, the Altitude 32 offers a remapping function that allows a compromise speaker layout to serve both standards. The onboard Optimizer, the same as that in the standalone Trinnov Audio Magnitude, combines sophisticated room optimisation with intelligent active crossovers and in-depth bass management.

Demonstrations of the system, held at Ideaworks in London, proved hugely impressive. The system was run on a 7.4.4 configuration using JBL Synthesis speakers and amplification. The soundfield offered pronounced immersion and image placement, with an LFE bass output that threatened to disrupt the nearby Metropolitan line underground. Price varies according to specification. The 8-channel Altitude 32 retails for £14,950, with 16, 24 and 32 channel models prices at £17,950, £21,950 and £24,950 respectively. The Dolby Atmos/Auro 3D firmware upgrade is an additional £1,950. Hello Steve, You mention the price of £18,000. I thought that the 32 channel version (including Auro3D and Atmos) was significantly more expensive = £27,000. I hope I am wrong! Best regards Dan Hoij
