Sub-Zeroand Wolf, a manufacturer of top end home appliance,s decided it wanted to upgrade its home automation system at it showroom in Knightsbridge to match the quality of the products it sells. The company has had this showroom since 2009, and it has expanded it to a subterranean level in 2011 to even include an indoor garden.

Managing a luxury store that will portray the right impression to its wealthy visitors, merits a tailored audiovisual integration. For this reason Sub-Zero and Wolf partnered with installers Your Smart Home.

“Initially the company was worried about a new AV integrator, because a previous system had not worked as well as they expected it to,” explains Ajay Maisuria, Your Smart Home sales director (pictured below right). “The first step was to offer them light switches that complemented the beautiful appliances they sell. Vimar, a stylish Italian switches brand was our recommendation and they instantly liked them.”

Maisuria and Your Smart Home managing director William Hopkins met with the designers and after careful listening they were able to recommend a complete AV system that went far beyond light switches.

Phil Gibbs, WyreStorm UK Sales Manager comments: “A surprising number of dealers come to us after being dissatisfied with the equipment they’ve installed that just doesn't chime. Your Smart Home came to us with a similar problem and we were confident in our ability to provide a rock-solid HDBaseT matrix switching, splitting and receiving solution that meet all Sub-Zero & Wolf’s needs.”

Maisuria adds, “Our design and recommendation was careful to address their needs and suggest features that will make their lives easier. Comfort and control without the complications is our tag line.”

The idea was to re-create a home experience, with its different areas working as stand-alone as well a part of a whole. Your Smart Home installed the whole integrated system in August 2015 including WyreStorm video distribution switchers, Elan g! control system, a multi zone audio from Niles Auriel, Sonos audio sources, Axis CCTV security cameras and the Vimar lighting switches.

“Of course everyone would prefer to install into one-manufacturer projects. However the reality of modern signal distribution and control means different manufacturers are specified for all kinds of reasons. Product compatibility is essential for any project,” says Gibbs. “For WyreStorm, reliability and interoperability with third party products is just as important as with our own products and is a central aspect of WyreStorm products development.”

However not all was an easy ride, explains Maisuria. “The difficulty on these kind of projects is that we come into it towards the end. If the structure is not sound, then it’ll be very difficult to install the AV equipment. At the same time, dust and dirt are not a good mix when installing high end products. If there is something we learned form this project is that time is of an essence and despite the client’s keenness to stay close the shortest time possible, we had to establish that it would take six weeks to finish. We work day and night and we got it done.”

Subzero and Wolf showroom has won awards for its design. It includes a bespoke kitchen by Darren Jenner, which showcases two Sub-Zero refrigerators and two Wolf Dual Fuel ranges. Next to it is a three-metre dining table and chairs, designed by JAB Anstoetz, which seats 20 guests for the company’s occasional Supper Clubs.

There is a bar, where bespoke cocktails are served. The Winston Churchill room with its own rise and fall brandy bar and Cigar Room.

The Nelson Room discreetly houses a fully integrated Sub-Zero ICB424 wine storage unit and as set of ICB700BR refrigerated drawers. This zone also has a magic mirror screen, for showing DVDs, cleverly concealed into hand-crafted wood panelling. The showroom offers many design ideas and inspiration as well as top of the range AV integration.

AV distribution is adeptly handled by a WyreStorm HDBaseT system comprising of 6x6 matrix switcher (MX-0606-PP) and matching 70m receivers at display points (RX-70-PP), giving the whole store a unified look when it’s playing source content and promotional videos; as well having the advantage of allowing each individual zone to have its own individually controlled video source. This solution gives the whole store a unified look when it’s playing promotional videos; but it also has the advantage of allowing each individual zone to have its own video source.

Everything on the store is managed via the ELAN control system, from the lights and changes of mood to the CCTV cameras and even some of the appliances.

The integration is such that new equipment can be easily added when needed. There are 12 HD AXIS cameras to keep a close look inside and outside the showroom, which have been installed recently.

The client says he is thrilled with the outcome of the project, "in particular when it works so well you don’t event need to think about it, it just works."
