WyreStorm has unveiled a new HDBaseT 4x4 matrix package with ultra slim display receivers (pictured above). Launched at the Invision UK Home Technology Showcase, the MX-0404-PP-KIT Pro Plus HD system comprises the matrix and four slimline receivers designed to convey Full HD video at 60Hz, audio and two-way control via IR and RS232 up to 70m using unshielded or shielded Cat5e/6 cable.

WyreStorm EMEA General Manager Adrian Ickeringill said that while the brand had investigated offering wall plates, it ultimately ruled them out due to heat dissipation issues. "Often you don't get the space you think with a wall plates" he added, "as connections protrude out. With this form factor, they just plug into the top of the unit and actually occupy less space." The receivers are just 15mm deep thick and feature threaded bushings that allow use of both standard and locking DC power plugs for improved connection options.

The MX-0404-PP-KIT package supports 36bit Deep Colour, a 6.75 Gbps bandwidth range/signalling rate and HDMI v1.4 with 3D compatibility. It's also able to read and copy EDID from connected devices with additional EDID configuration through customisable DIP switch settings when required.

Although omitting the duplicate HDMI outputs found on the MX-0404-PP model that enable outputs to be cascaded by connecting to additional WyreStorm extender solutions, MX-0404-PP-KIT HDBaseT outputs can be extended if required by adding an AMP-001-010 HDBaseT Digital Amplifier between the matrix and receiver as a transmission/repeating device. Not only does this enable extension of an HDBaseT transmission up to 7 times should the project require it, but also offers the bonus of improved audio options in display zones.

Also at the Invision showcase, Wyrestorm offered the first live demonstration of its upcoming 4K compatible 8x8 matrix (pictured above). The UHD HDBaseT Pro Plus 8x8 switcher was coupled to a Red-ray player for the event, feeding into a Samsung UHD TV. The device is based on based on the Class A HDBaseT VS100 chip, and offers 100m 1080p/48bit 60Hz distribution, audio, discrete internal IR routing with RS232 control and power.

The unit supports 4K up to 60Hz across 70m. WyreStorm Product development manager Dave Schorah says: "4K as a consumer technology is still evolving, we are acutely aware that any 4K product we release must be tested compatible with all known CI and commercial control systems as well as PC graphics cards and consumer devices that may form part of any WyreStorm 4K project."

The 4K matrix will offer a transmission card-based design consisting of HDMI in, HDBaseT Out and switched HDMI out capable of feeding up to 16 screens in an 8x8+8 configuration. The brand says it plans to offer a modular, customizable matrix with a range of multi-format transmission cards in 2015. Pricing for the 4K unit has yet to be revealed.
