Future-proof Chelsea Square property development

Installs  AMX

Steve Moore and his team at SMC have an enviable reputation for seamlessly integrating cutting-edge control and entertainment systems into high-end properties. And it's easy to see why when you consider the astonishing work that's gone into this smart home project in London's Chelsea Square. Behind a neo-Georgian facade, this impressive property shows just what's possible when you combine vision with technology.

From basement through three upper floors, the property has been restored, extended and refurbished. But that's only half the story, because behind the walls is a control infrastructure able to accommodate whatever the building's new owners might want.

From integrated security with CCTV, to advanced lighting design and an entertainment and communications system, every box has been ticked. This is future-proofing taken to the next level. To provide the control and communications backbone, SMC chose AMX.  Deployed throughout the property's six bedrooms, drawing room and common areas are a series of touchpanels and keypads, just waiting to control the many facilities woven into the building.

At the entrance, you'll find an AMX Metreau communicator which enables one-way visual and two-way audio conversation between any visitor and the homeowner. Via Ethernet, residents can see and communicate with visitors on any of the 5-inch AMX NXD-500i touchpanels located in the entrance hall and around the house. These panels also can be used to watch feeds from the various CCTV cameras located around the exterior of the property.

Additional security comes via a NACOS gold grade III intruder alarm, which uses window contacts, vibration sensors and infra-red motion detectors to protect the property. The system is centrally monitored for police or fire response in the event of activation. The double aspect drawing room has been wired for multi-room audio, with Bowers & Wilkins in-ceiling speakers working in conjunction with a SONOS music system.  Naturally enough, the whole house is cabled for fast internet and telephony using CAT5e. While the drawing room has provision for HD TV, no screen has been installed - the choice of panel has been left to the incoming homeowners.

A separate family media room incorporates a home cinema system built around a 50-inch Panasonic plasma. B&W CWM cinema speakers are used to deliver audio. Control is provided by an AMX MVP-5200i wireless touchpanel (naturally, this can also handle digital intercom, entry communication and VoIP).  Both the family room and dining room have also been pre-wired for electronic blinds.

Lighting schemes on the ground, first floor, garden and terrace areas have been realised via a combination of AMX and Lutron Homeworks, combinging the best in scene-setting and energy management. Once again, the first floor master bedroom suite has been pre-wired to accommodate a wall-mounted TV and boasts in-ceiling speakers and air-con. You want more? In the ensuite there's a 17-inch Aquavision water-proof TV too. All the remaining bedrooms are pre-wired for TV and AV sources.

At the heart of this expansive AMX network are AMX NI900 NetLinx controllers. It's these that allow for the provision of different levels of functionality to different parts of the property. And as the entire building has been comprehensibly wired, the system can be easily customised by its lucky owners.

If you're looking for an example of the ultimate smart home, this is probably it. It's a fabulous job all round.
