HD distribution specialist Wyrestorm has begun shipping a range of Extender sets able to transmit uncompressed 1080p video and audio, with IR control, over a single Cat5e/6/7 cable.

Three single cable transmitters and receivers have been launched, differentiated by transmission distance. There's the 40m EX-1UTP-IR-40, 70m EX-1UTP-IR-70 and 120m Super Extender EX-1UTP-IR-120. IR control varies between units. The IR-40 offers one-way IR, while the step-up models offer full two-way control, from source to display and vice versa. The EX-1UTP-IR-70 also includes RS232 for integration with third party control systems, while the EX-1UTP-IR-40 features an EDID DIP switch on the transmitter "to manually encourage transmission between devices" as well as a distance dial on the receiver to fine tune performance according to the length of the cable run.

All models ship with a USB 5V power adaptor that allows each balun to be powered by the USB port on the source or display; this saves space and controls energy usage - the display is turned off the extender ceases to draw power.

In related news, Wyrestorm has also announced a co-endorsement Partnership Programme designed to strengthen relationships between connected companies. Says the brand: "Communication is a key aspect of our business. We talk, but more importantly, we listen. Whether about our products or service - you let us know how we're doing and how we can do even more."

The company says the aim of its Partnership Programme is to be "in dialogue with all facets of the industry worldwide, from installers and integrators to manufacturers of source devices and displays that connect to Wyrestorm equipment."

The programme is an extension of the evaluation process it already pursues, to ensure industry-wide compatibility with Wyrestorm products. One key area of interest for the company currently is cables and connectors. "Given the high potential bandwidth demands of the HD transmissions and the 10.2Gbps capacity of the cable required to distribute the signal it is essential for installers to use quality cabling and terminations to avoid issues on site." After extensive testing, the brand says it is now able to fully endorse Cat5/6 UTP, single mode Fibre and SCP HNC Pro and Pro+ Cat5/6 cables by Beldon, Webro and SCP, when used as a distribution and control medium for all Wyrestorm products.

Wyrestorm says it is keen to extend the initiative, and invites other brands to contact its UK sales office. Details our on our Wyrestorm partner page.
