Pakedge has put its pedal to the metal and introduced the WK-1, an ultra-fast 802.11ac dual band 2.4/5GHz wireless access point. The company claims this enterprise grade WAP is three times faster than vanilla-flavoured wireless-N access points. It’s also capable of supporting twice as many clients, and boasts a greater useable range. A total of 16 SSIDs and two guest networks can be accomodated.

Design is streamlined and unobtrusive. The unit has a polycarbonate housing and internal anntena, allowing it to integrate with most internal installations. The WK-1 is powered by PoE+, so does not need a power outlet. It’s supplied with brackets which allow it to be mounted on standard or drop-tile style ceilings and walls. It’s available initially in white, with black to follow in July, but can also be painted to blend in to almost any environment.

The WK-1 has a similarly slick UI (pictured below), redesigned it says “for a more unified look to facilitate a more consist experience across the Pakedge platform. Integrators can access the GUI, set up preferences, and upload firmware in a matter of minutes.”

The WK-1 is part of the manufacturer’s Custom Engineering program. This allows installers to personalise the product. Companies can have their own logo branded on the device, both on the user interface and on the serial number label. Integrators can also burn their preferred configurations directly into the firmware. Additional customisation is still possible on these product iterations, but the factory default setting is the manufacturer’s own.

The 802.11ac WAP is Pakedge Connect+ certified, to maximize functionality with other Pakedge products. When paired with the C-36 wireless controller, proprietary Smart Wav technology uses intelligent software algorithms to enhance wireless transmission and reception. When used with the BakPak Cloud Management System, the functionality of the Pakedge Connect+ Platform is extended into cloud-enabled services. These include remote system monitoring and management.

The Pakedge range of networking control and infrastructure products are distributed by RGB Communications. For more on RGB's product portfolio and services, visit our partner page here.
