Microsoft has announced a new version of the Xbox One with support for HDR gaming and 4K Blu-ray playback. The console will also support UHD video streaming from Netflix and Amazon Video..The Xbox One S is 40 per cent slimmer than the last Xbox, and have an integrated power supply, and will come in three iterations: 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. The biggest drive edition will launch first, priced at $399, in limited quantities in August. The 500GB version will sell for just $299. There are no prices yet for the UK editions. It can be placed horzontally or vertcially, using an optional stand, and also appears to be only available in white.

Microsoft also used E3 to tease Project Scorpio, which Xbox chief Phil Spencer declared would be “the most powerful console ever built” when it ships for Christmas 2017. Although over a year away, it was revealed that this new member of the Xbox family would offer native 4K gaming at 60Hz as well as high resolution VR.

Graphically Project Scorpio will represent a major leap forward, he said, and offer six teraflops of processing power. However, Spencer was keen to stress that this next release would be fully compatible with Xbox One and XBox One S – and vice versa.
