Vivitek has launched a compact UHD 4K resolution projector. The model is built around TI’s recently developed 0.66-inch 4K DLP DMD chip, which generates UHD-4K’s requisite 8.3 million individual pixels complete with DLP DarkChip3 and BrilliantColor refinements for optimal black levels.
The chip’s innovative eXpanded Pixel Resolution (XPR) technology uses 4.15 million (2716x1528) mirrors, capable of switching over 9,000 times per second to deliver two discrete pixels for each mirror per frame, reformulated through video processing to map and reproduce the native 4K image. According to Vivitek, this technology has been able to fully resolve a 4K 1-pixel line pattern "and is indistinguishable from native 4K projection - unlike pixel-shifting techniques employing standard 1080p chips."
Contrast is rated at 1,000,000:1 and brightness 2,000 ANSI lumens. The projector is compatible with HDR10 sources.
The HK2288 features advanced video processing for smooth upscaling and motion, and boasts an input lag of around 50 millisecond. Comprehensive gamma and colour management adjustments are available to optimise REC709 colour from a six-segment RGB colour wheel.
The HK2288 is equipped with a 1.39-2.09 throw, a 1.5x zoom, and vertical lens shift for trouble-free installation and set-up. Unusally, three HDMI 2.0 inputs are offered and dual infrared sensors positioned front and back allow for easy control from an intuitive full-function remote. Lamp life of up to 4,000 hours is possible in Dynamic Economy Mode.
The Vivitek HK2288 home cinema projector will be availability from December 2017 from Karma AV. The HK2288 will retail for £2,499.
