British security specialist Brisant Secure is introducing a smart door lock, which looks not unlike a conventional door lock and handle.
Available in Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z-Wave and Apple Homekit editions, the Ultion Smart bristles with advanced features, including voice activation and geo-unlocking. For traditionalists, there’s also the option to use a real key - a useful back-up.
High security features include Lockdown Mode, a hidden lock which activates when attacked, and a complex 11 pin internal system, with a potential 294,970 key combinations.
For smart home users, there are multiple ways to operate the Ultion Smart: voice controls with Amazon Alexa or Siri through Apple HomeKit, Bluetooth via an accompanying app, wireless keypad PIN access, or the aforementioned physical key.
The company has partnered with Danish technology brand Danalock to implement handsfree operation. The connection between the lock and the user’s phone is encrypted, while the digital keys authenticating Ultion SMART are stored in an HSM crypto-processing chip.
Using GPS and Bluetooth technologies, the Ultion Smart can automatically unlock when a trusted user approaches the door, plus lock on close too. Users can even issue time-limited electronic keys, via the Danalock app, perfect for Airbnb hosts, letting in tradespeople, gardeners or other trusted visitors.
When it comes to installation, homeowners can either retain existing external door hardware or select from one of Brisant Secure’s edgeless handles and design-led furniture collection (Sweet) with a choice of five finishes across numerals, knockers and plus letterplates.
The company says the Ultion Smart can be installed in minutes, with no drilling required. Batteries are said to be easy to replace. Users receive a notification when the battery starts running low. Cells has an expected life of 18 months.
The Ultion lock has received industry accreditations including Sold Secure Diamond and Secure By Design, meaning it is backed by locksmiths and the UK police respectively. The door lock comes with a £1,000 guarantee.
The Ultion Smart Bluetooth model retails for £229, the Zigbee/Z-Wave models cost £259 and the Apple HomeKit version is £259. More details here.
