Toshiba has unveiled a low cost 58-inch 4k HDR TV with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and Alexa-embedded microphone. Priced at just £399, the UK4B also sports the brand’s TRU picture processing engine and an audio system procured from Onkyo.

The UK4B is the first set from the brand with a voice control mic built-in. Previous models have required an external dongle. Owners can voice command the set to access Alexa smart functionality, as well as adjust the volume of the set, along with other control commands.

Also available in 43- and 50-inch guises, priced at £329 and £369 respectively, the UK4B embraces a ‘frameless’ micro bezel design, and smart connectivity courtesy of Toshiba’s own smart portal OS, which features apps for Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video. The onboard tuner is Freeview Play, which offers a full selection of mainstream Catch-Up TV and on-demand content.

TheTRU picture engine covers Micro Dimming, image interpolation and upscaling. TRU Micro Dimming technology enhances dynamic contrast performance, offering deep blacks,

While TRU Resolution upscales non-4K content. TRU Flow motion smoothing employs MEMC technology to remove judder.

HDR performance is aided by Dolby Vision, to prevent clipping through tone mapping. There’s also Dolby Atmos compatibility, although we’d assume this is more useful passed-through the set than left to the device of the onboard Onkyo stereo speaker array.

“With the UK4B, we’re making incredible 4K HDR TV and the latest in connected smart home technology available to everyone,” says Bart Kuijten, Commercial Director at Toshiba UK. “Whether you want a sleek, near frameless design, voice control with Alexa or just simply access to all the latest streaming apps and Freeview Play, we have something for everyone.”
