High-end audio specialist Theta Digital has begun shipping its Dolby Atmos-enabled Casablanca IVa Immersive Sound Preamp/Processor. Built on the same platform as previous Casablanca preamps and first seen at CES 2017, the new Casablanca IVa features a number of significant changes and improvements

Two new TI DSP processor chips add 7.1.4 channel output capability and decoding for both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X 3D sound formats. Dirac Live Digital Room Correction and Optimisation can be used across all 12 output channels. Dolby Surround and DTS Nureal:X provide upmixing with both encoded bitstreams or PCM.

The Casablanca IVa sports 4 HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. The HMDI 1 input is HDCP 2.2 compliant.

Joining the traditional Analogue Direct mode is a new Digital Direct mode, which that passes on any signals arriving in the digital domain in their native format and channel count.

A revised digital layout sees the removal of the Sample Rate Converter (SRC) used at the input to the DSP board in the earlier Casablanca III HD and IV resulting; the company says this has led to a marked improvement in sound quality.

Theta’s proprietary Jitter Jail II is used to reduce distortion based on timing errors in the input signal.

US price is pegged at $17,995. System builders can add an optional DAC output card or 12-channel Balanced Digiout card. UK distribution is via Absolute Sounds.
