Specialist audio installation outfit Systemline has announced an update to its integrated S7 BBC iPlayer service, for existing and new users of the multiroom audio system.
The S7 now supports MPEG-Dash, which has been adopted by BBC TV and radio. The platform automatically negotiates the highest quality internet stream that the playback device and internet speed can support. For S7 and BBC radio, that means 339kbps AAC format streams for both national and local live radio. It follows a decision by the BBC to invest in the same streaming standard for both TV and radio across national and local networks. This marks a departure from a mix of formats.
S7 also supports the direct selection of a radio programme broadcast over the past seven days, from national and local stations. Via the S7 app, a user can select a station and browse by day, or from a complete a-z listing.
“The BBC has been very helpful in providing support and test streams for us to use which means that the S7 BBC iPlayer service will be compatible with future BBC plans,” explained Paul Hilditch, Systemline Brand Manager. “339kbps is many times the quality of other internet radio streams, ensuring S7 users are getting the very best out of their installed HIFI system which can also dynamically display pop up stations that the BBC broadcast for a limited time, as well as the highest resolution station icons.”
