Sony is bundling a hard drive media player packed with 4K movie content, with its 84-inch 4K Ultra HD TV in the States. The XBR-84X900, known as the KD-84X9005 in the UK and Europe, will come with ten films encoded at 3840 x 2160 resolution, four times the clarity of Full HD, as part of a '4K Ultra HD Home Experience' package. The announcement helps the brand circumnavigate the paucity of native 4K software currently available.
The movie collection comprises: The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall (2012), Bad Teacher, The Karate Kid, Salt, Battle Los Angeles, The Other Guys, That's My Boy, Taxi Driver and The Bridge on the River Kwai.
The media player will also sport 4K short content from Red Bull
Media House. According to the Sony US blog,
the media player will be "updated periodically with additional, new
content." More details will be released at the International CES in
January. However in news certain to disappoint high-end UK
integrators, the initiative doesn't appear to be coming here. "It's
a US only thing," spokesperson Lucie Speciale told Inside
CI. It seems outside the US, the £25,000 set will be left to
fend for itself.
