Sony’s 2020 4k LED LCD TV range, the XH81, XH80 and X70, are now shipping, covering screens from 43- to 85-inches.
Both the XH81 and XH80 series use the brand’s familiar 4K HDR Processor X1, and have wide colour gamut Triluminos panels. HDR support includes Dolby Vision dynamic HDR, however they are not compatible with HDR10+. For home theatres with a need for particularly large screens, the XH80 (pictured above) looks particularly good value.
The larger X80H and XH81 (pictured below) models (55-inch and up), utilise a newly-developed X-Balanced Speaker designed to offer full-band audio, and Dolby Atmos compatibility with pass through opens the door to immersive audio.
The sets use the Android smart OS, with Google Assistant and Chromecast built-in. There’s also Amazon Alexa functionality (channel changing, volume control) when on a network with Alexa devices.
Apple uses have AirPlay 2 support, to stream movies, music and photos from an iPhone, iPad or Mac. The screens can also be used with an Apple HomeKit control environment.
The entry-level X70 4k HDR screen lacks the niceties of its stablemates, including Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and has a more rudimentary image processor and smart platform. However it still benefits from Sony’s highly regarded X-Reality PRO picture upscaler.
The Sony X70 is available in 43-, 49-, 55- and 65-inch screen sizes priced at £599, £699, £799 and £899 respectively.
The XH80 is available in 43-, 49-, 55-, 65-, 75 and 85-inch screen sizes priced at £649, £749, £949, £1099, £1899 and £2499 respectively.
