Somfy, perhaps best known to the UK CI trade for its motorised blinds and shades, has launched an outdoor security camera. Expanding its connected security solutions range, the new camera is certified P 54 for weather resistance, and is compatible with WorksWithNest ecosystems, IFTTT, Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Retailing for £249, the Somfy Outdoor Camera is equipped with an integrated 110dB siren, and in the event of attempted intrusion, will issue smartphone alerts. Homeowners can talk to any approaching individual, or give an instruction to an optional remote monitoring service, and activate the siren directly from an ‘Somfy Protect application.

A CES Innovation award winner, the camera is also able to artificial intelligence algorithms to identify intruders and automatically trigger its siren. This enables it to distinguish a human from an animal, and eliminate the risk of false alarms, be they from animals, passing cars, and even insects. This function will land via a firmware update.

The camera records in Full HD 1080p resolution and has HDR exposure enhancement. There’s an x8 zoom. The viewing angle is 130 degrees.

Wi-Fi connection is over 2.4GHz. Video recordings are encrypted in AES-256

The Outdoor Camera offers 3 installation possibilities: plugged in at a mains power socket, connected to an electrical power input or linked to the outdoor lighting system. The smart activation feature allows owners to simplify their departures and arrivals, as the Somfy Outdoor Camera automatically turns off when they return home, and a notification reminds them to activate the camera when they leave home.

It also boasts clear night vision at 8m. To enhance the level of night deterrence, the camera can be connected to an existing outdoor fixture, which will turn on automatically as soon as a presence is detected.

Like other cameras in the Somfy Protect range, when motion is detected, a photo-video alert is sent, and a 10-second video is recorded and secured in the cloud. These videos are retrievable and downloadable free for 24 hours, making it possible to provide evidence if there is an actual intrusion.

Somfy also offers 24/7 guard and remote surveillance services. These services are available on request, without commitment, from £5 per month.
