Sky TV is ramping up its factual programme offering this week, with the launch of two new channels, Sky Documentaries and Sky Nature, as well as a relaunched Sky History. The channels will debut May 27.
Sky Documentaries, Sky Nature and Sky History will be available to all Sky and Now TV customers at no extra cost. Sky will also begin to offer HDR alongside its new Sky Nature channel.
Sky has long delayed introducing HDR to its UHD offering, so all eyes will be on these early downloads. Sky HDR is only available on VOD. The new channels will host a number of original documentary commissions,
Also scheduled this year are biographies of Stephen Hawking, Tina Turner and Hollywood actor Steve McQueen. Action-starved sports fans can look forward to Tyson Bruno, a feature length film that looks at the two boxing superstars, and their memorable clash in Las Vegas.
including Lancaster, the story of the Lancaster Bomber, The Go-Go's, a look at the eighties female punk band, and Look Away, a harrowing documentary which looks at the darker side of the rock music scene.
The first Sky HDR content will include Gangs of Lemur Island, Wilderness Reborn and Malawi Wildlife Rescue. It seems we may still have a long wait until Sky begins live sports coverage in HDR. Sky says it will begin live HDR Sports coverage in 2021, with the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
Integrators should note that not all Sky Q set top boxes are compatible with the service. The following Sky Q boxes will not work with Sky UHD HDR:

32C0xx Sky Q 1TB
32C1xx Sky Q 1TB
