Sky has announced a new 1TB iteration of its Sky Q TV box. The 4k UHD model is able to record six programmes at once, and offers access to over 3,500 hours of UHD content, including, Ultra HD movie premieres on demand, and sports.

The 1TB box also allows subscribers to watch on two Sky Q mini-boxes simultaneously. Previously, this feature was only available on the brand’s flagship 2TB box. Viewers can use Voice Search, using the remote controller, to search the broadcaster’s vault of 5,000 TV series, 8,000 movies and 300 live channels.

The 1TB hard drive can store up to 500 hours of recordings, which Sky helpfully tells us ‘is more than enough room for all 86 episodes of The Sopranos and 420 episodes of Peppa Pig.’ In addition to UHD, the box supports Dolby Atmos, deployed by Sky on select live sports events, UHD movie downloads and 4k TV shows.

Uniquely for a pay TV service, the platform also offers deep integration with Netflix. The OTT service is showcased on the Sky Q homepage, alongside Sky content, and offers customers the option of a single bill payment. Other apps available on the platform include Spotify, YouTube and XITE.

Upcoming UHD content on Sky includes Tim Burton’s live-action reimagining of Disney’s Dumbo and Captain Marvel.

The Sky Q 1TB UHD box costs start from £25 (the 2TB box costs start from £50). Sky TV packs start from £22 a month. The Sky Q Experience costs £13 per month on top of the Sky TV pack and includes Ultra HD and Sky Go Extra. Ultra HD content access epends on the subscription level.
