Samsung has outlined its QLED TV range for 2017, and unveiled a novel new TV design known as The Frame, created by Swiss designer Yves Behar.

The incoming QLED line-up use a revised version of Quantum Dot technology said to offer greater brightness, improved viewing angles and a wider colour volume. All the sets are edge-lit. The QLED TVs support HDR10 and the brand’s new HDR10+ dynamic tone mapping standard. Peak brightness is greater than 1500 nits.

The QLED TV series comprises the Q9F, Q8C, Q7C and Q7F ranges (a mix of curved and flat), and are expected to be available from March 29. Pre-orders begin on March 15. Q7F models retail from £2000, with the Q7C starting at £2,200, Q8C from £3,000 and Q9F from £4,900.

Samsung is also introducing a new No Gap Wall-mount accessory, which brings the TV flush against the wall. Installation is said to take 15-minutes.

A single optical lead, the Near-Invisible Connection cable, links the screen with an outboard tuner box.

For those that don’t want a wall mount, there’s a choice of TV stands: the Studio Stand is for any artist-inspired living space, while the Gravity Stand allows the TV to be rotated.

Samsung has also revised its Smart Hub connected platform. The latest Samsung One Remote Control now offers voice control capabilities, and works in conjunction with a new Smart View app. A TV Plus service will offer users 4K movies and entertainment, while a Music service allows for searching and identification of songs heard in the background of TV shows and films

The Frame (pictured above) has been designed, literally, as a work of art.  Available in 55- and 65-inch screen sizes, it can be hung like a picture, and in Art Mode, displays digital art. More than 100 art pieces in various categories (landscape, architecture, wildlife, action, drawing) are available.  There will also be customisable accessory options, including interchangeable bezels and an optional Studio Stand, to fit any designer interior.

The Frame is not part of the QLED range, although further panel details have yet to be revealed. It will be supplied with Samsung’s Near-Invisible Connection and No Gap Wall-mount.

“At Samsung, we strive to provide our customers with the most advanced technology to deliver unrivalled viewing experiences and cutting-edge designs that complement their everyday lives,” said HS Kim, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With state-of-the-art style, smart features and picture quality, our 2017 line-up is truly ushering in a new era for television.”
