Samsung has stepped up its commitment to CI, with the incorporation of Control4 Simple Device Discovery Protocol (SDDP) software into Blu-ray and TV products.

The brand will announce Control4 Certified driver support for its entire 2017 4K UHD TV, and the new UBD-M9700 4K UHD Blu-ray Player, at this week’s CEDIA show, with over-the-network firmware activation on QLED Series, MU Series, The Frame and the 4K player to follow.

The Control4 Certified drivers promise “lightning-fast response times for consumers with little to no lag” as well as ad full access to the Samsung Smart Hub Command List.

The move should make Samsung products an easy choice for smart home projects. With any SDDP-enabled device, a Control4 home automation system can automatically finds, identifies, authenticates, adds and connects a device during the initial installation, greatly simplifying the setup time.

“At Samsung, we are proud to deliver the very best in total home solutions ensuring consumers enjoy superior quality in both picture and sound. This includes offering many different options for consumers to setup and control their Samsung TVs,” said Brandt Varner, Vice President of TV Product Marketing for Samsung Electronics America. “Now that our entire 4K UHD TV lineup and new Blu-ray Player support IP control, we’re addressing the fast-growing custom installer market and consumer appetite for smart home solutions.” Giulio Ambrosi, Vice President of CE Product Strategy for Samsung, describes the move as a “collaborative effort between two industry leaders.”

“Control4 has long been dedicated to providing integrators and customers with the flexibility to include the very best consumer electronics, like those offered by Samsung, into a Control4 smart home,” adds Jeff Dungan, Sr. Vice President of Business Development for Control4. “With the integration of SDDP and the new Control4 Certified drivers for Samsung devices, it is even easier for Control4 dealers to install and configure Samsung devices into Control4 projects and for consumers to be ensured of the best possible experience after the installation.”
