Ruark has expanded its music player range with the R3 Music System. Recognising that its R5 music system and R7 radiogram may be too large for some applications, the new model embraces an all-in-one desktop design.

Measuring a compact 167 x 420 x 220mm (HxWxD), the R3 features the familiar fabric grille and curved edges, clear OLED display, with top-mounted RotoDial controller.

The system has an integrated CD player, DAB/DAB+ and FM tuners Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allowing users to stream songs from Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Amazon Music and Deezer. Ruark’s Managing Director Alan O’Rourke describes the system as ‘Smart Radio.’ Despite this, there is no support for voice assistants, with none planned.

Additional connectivity includes analogue audio, an optical digital audio input and USB Type C. Beneath the hood is a two-channel Class A-B amplifier.

O’Rourke says interest in the new system is high, with the company already pre-selling its first two R3 production runs. “”We went into lockdown expecting the worst, but we did more business in April than we did the previous December. With the R3 we’re now on course for one of our best ever years.”

O’Rourke suggests that with consumers no longer planning to spend on holidays, people have shifted their spend to home entertainment.

There’s no integrated subwoofer, but speaking to Inside CI on a Zoom call, the MD says the idea was to maximise mid-range clarity. “People will be listening to a lot of radio on this.”

The Ruark R3 comes in Rich Walnut or Soft Grey lacquer finishes, and begins shipping in August. It retails for £629.
