Pioneer has released more details about its next flagship AV receiver, the SC-LX89. The model lands in the UK at the end of October and features a host of refinements over the current SC-LX88 model. Most obviously, the new AV receiver adds DTS:X compatibility, to be implemented via firmware, to its suite of processing modes, which already includes Dolby Atmos. The company says that it is the only manufacturer to implement Atmos with “superior Class D digital amplification.”

Also new is HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2, supporting 4K video at 60HZ with 4:4:4 colour compliance. Pioneer says the receiver is ready for UHD sources delivering HDR (High Dynamic Range) and BT.2020 colour gamut. The receiver offers 9.2 channels of amplification out of the box, with 11 channel pre-outs allowing for a full 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos speaker deployment if required.

Installation is simplified through the use of a new system setup app, available for iOS and Android. The company is alo promising a new user interface. For those who have been struggling with the current dour GUI for years, this alone makes the new model an enticing proposition. The receiver will include dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi capability, and have integrated Bluetooth.

The SC-LX89 should also sound rather different to its predecessor. Beneath the bonnet is a new power supply, said to increase drive, power and control. It also boasts new custom audio components. The receiver has been tuned at, and certified by, Air Studios in London.

The SC-LX89 will retail for £2199. Distribution is via Invision UK. For more coverage of Invision’s product portfolio and services, visit our partner page here.
