DTS Play-Fi multiroom audio and streaming technology is coming to Philips TVs and audio products, following a deal between TP Vision and DTS owner Xperi.
DTS Play-Fi is an interoperable ecosystem that allows compatible products from different brands to work together. It encompasses whole home audio, stand-alone systems and app-based personal listening, with support for high-res audio and sub-millisecond playback accuracy. Compatible products include TVs, mobile devices, soundbars, and active speakers.
The first Philips TV to include DTS Play-Fi support will be the OLED805 series. The company says it aims to build a complete wireless connectivity platform, which will eventually include all 2020 Philips Android TVs. A firmware update is promised to also bring DTS Play-Fi to all 2019 Philips Android TVs, later this year.
TP Vision has also committed to launch a new range of DTS Play-Fi equipped Philips soundbars and wireless speakers in September.
The alliance is significant for both companies, dramatically expanding the reach of DTS Play-Fi outside the US, and gifting TP Vision a roadmap for its Philips audio license.
